About me


My name is James Turnbull. I am enrolled as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.
After completing my legal studies I started work in the trust department of a leading New Zealand Law firm.
Since then, I have had many years of experience with both trusts and foundations in a range of different roles and in a number of different jurisdictions.
  • I founded the Czech Republic’s first specialist trust company.
  • I am a member of the Advisory Board of a large international provider of business trust services.
  • I am the author of “Czech Trusts – A User’s Guide” as well as co-authoring a leading Czech textbook on trusts “Svěřenské fondy – krok za krokem” which is now in its second print edition.
  • I am the holder of the prestigious TEP designation issued by The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
  • I am a board member of APRSF, the Czech Trusts Association.
  • I am often quoted in the media as an expert in my field.
  • I regularly train lawyers and others on trusts and foundations
I take pride in making complicated concepts simple, clear and understandable.
